Farmhouse Residence
Special care was taken when remodeling this farmhouse, as the owner had lived here since he was born. Initially a one-room farmhouse, several additions were added throughout the years to increase the size. After an exterior upgrade in 2022, we moved inside for a much need remodel.
To the left of the front entrance, you step up to the main living area. Here we knew the drop ceiling, mismatched trim, and old hardwood had to go. We installed European oak hardwood, new drywalled ceiling, and replaced the old bay window with a modern three panel picture window.
We carried the neutral colour pallet into the dinning space – using Simply White by Benjamin Moore (OC-117) on the walls, ceiling, and trim. For a personal touch, we used the owner’s collection of antique Royal Dalton plates and created a feature plate wall. Hanging the plates was easy with a laser level and plate hangers found on Amazon.
Who says you can’t make IKEA look custom? We added a shoe mould to the IKEA MALSJÖ glass cabinet, giving it a more substantial look without breaking the bank. Matching the paint colour to the rest of the cabinet is key, which can easily be done at your local paint store.
This used to be the first room you walked into when entering the farmhouse (now repurposed for a dining space). The mismatched ceiling height and flooring were a giveaway to the multiple additions over the years.
In the kitchen, we created a timeless look with an ultra functional layout. By having easy access to the fridge, sink and stove, it allows you to move seamlessly between working areas of the kitchen. That’s the kitchen triangle!
The owners decided the keep the size of the kitchen the same as the original one, allowing them to put their budget towards design features like shiplap ceilings, full-height tile backsplash, and custom cabinets (like this beautiful rangehood).
The original kitchen layout proved challenging with no prep space around the stove, awkward appliance layout, and shallow cabinets.
To maximize counter space, we tucked the microwave into a cubby. This also allowed the beautiful Corian countertop to shine – a solid surface material that is nonporous and free of any seams.
Moving to the bathroom, we continued the neutral look with added black accents. The heated black stone flooring and custom vanity elevated this bathroom to a spa-like feel.
A carefully installed mosaic shower wall showcases our expert tiling skills – leaving perfect grout lines and tile edges. Although not visible, quality waterproofing was used behind all tiles to give owners peace of mind against any potential water damage.
Custom handrailing was installed for not only safety, but added style to the open concept layout.
Prior to the railing, it was an easy fall into the lower level.
The view from the front entrance transformed into a light filled, welcoming space.
Another happy customer! We were happy to give these owners a beautiful remodel of their special farmhouse – with no detail overlooked.
