We have a thing for transforming outdated 70’s bathrooms 🪩

PRIMARY BATHROOM OVERHAUL
We took this dated, builder bathroom and turned it into a modern spa retreat. Part of the planning process is figuring out how the room is used. These owners decided to get rid of their bathtub (that was rarely used), in order to create a larger shower area.

BEFORE & AFTER
Retro to Spa Bathroom
This outdated primary ensuite bathroom didn’t even have a door! We transformed this burnt orange space into a calm, spa like experience for our clients.
The tub was in an awkward angle, and don’t even mention the tub filler. We completely gutted this bathroom while keeping the layout and size the same. Adding a large soaking tub, surrounded by a wall to wall @coriandesign top, and curbless shower makes this bathroom look way more modern.

It’s all in the details…
🔹We opted for a shower curtain vs glass, giving a more open, softer feel to the bathroom. Plus, less squeegee-ing to do! If your home has hard water, this keeps your bathroom looking new without those etched hard water stains on glass.
🔹Double wide medicine cabinet for extra storage and easy access to the clients beauty products.
🔹Heated flooring with ‘soapstone’ looking porcelain tile
🔹@houseofrohl Faucet and shower head give it a luxurious feel, something that we touch all the time

TILE TRIM SHOWER NICHES FOR THE WIN 👊
I’ve been loving the sleek, clean look of these shower niches. I used to do a quartz niche but instead use the @schlutersystemsna tile trims!
Do you like this better than the quartz niches?

SAVE this bathroom reno checklist 📌
We love transforming clients bathrooms to give them a beautiful place to enjoy. After years of doing these projects, we’ve mastered a simple formula you can use for your own reno - whether it’s a DIY project or you’re working with a contractor.
Here’s what you should consider:
SHOWER FLOOR - You have the option of doing a flush curbless tiled floor, a tiled curb, or an acrylic shower pan. All can look great, but go from the more expensive to least expensive depending on your budget.
PLUMBING FIXTURES - You get what you pay for. I recommend always installing a handheld shower arm in addition to the main shower head. This is a must for cleaning. We’re a big fan of Riobel fixtures from @houseofrohl
VANITIES - You also get what you pay for, but surprisingly you don’t always have to go custom. @homehardware has amazing options at their Home Building Centers, where you can special order beautiful vanities at a great price. Look for dovetail, wooden drawers, and painted doors for a more upscale look.
LIGHTING - If you’re on a budget, keep it simple with strategically placed pot lights. Get the gimbal ones where you can point them towards the vanity mirror - giving you perfect lighting versus that downwards light that makes you look tired. If your budget allows, we recommend adding wall sconces beside the mirror (in addition to some pot lights) for a layered lighting effect.
Bathroom Reno Checklist:
- Heated floors, with or without wifi enabled thermostat
- Vanity with ample counter space, backsplash and side splash
- Single hole faucet
- Shower kit with handheld
- Upgraded toilet (American Standard 2794104020)
- Silent bathroom fan (@panasonic )
- Towel hooks (minimum 2)
- Custom sized mirror (with or without metal edge)
- Custom shower glass (or shower kit if using acrylic base)
- Shower wall tiles (we love large format tiles for a sleek look)
- Matching grout (lately we’ve been using grout from @custombuildingproducts)

Updated this 3 piece bathroom with a more modern, curbless shower, tiled from floor to ceiling. Heated floors, wall sconces, and a wall faucet elevated this from basic builder to luxury bathroom.

NEUTRAL IS ALWAYS IN 🐚.
Beautiful 3-piece bathroom renovation. Beige, sandy coloured square tiles. Opted for linen shower curtain for a softer look (no one wants to see water marks on glass anyways). We also painted the door and baseboards a light tan colour, giving you a contrast from the white creamy walls.

B E F O R E & A F T E R
From hodgepodge reno to spa bathroom 🤩
If I only had one room I could renovate, it would be the bathroom for me! It’s one of the best ways to transform your home - somewhere you spend a lot of time in ;)
BATHROOM MUST HAVES:
1️⃣ Matte Tile: Pick something that feels nice on your feet, and won’t be slippery when wet (unlike shiny tile). The matte tile also hides any hairs on the floor.
2️⃣ Heated Floors: Walking up to warm tile on your feet is definitely a treat (especially in the fall/winter). You’ll have to decide well in advance to give your electrician time to prep before your tile.
3️⃣ Shower Handheld: Most people settle for just a shower head, but adding a handheld will come in handy when cleaning (or washing a pet).
4️⃣ Side Mirror Lighting: Create a spa like feel by having the option of wall sconces vs just having pot lights. Sometimes you want a moody bath and the above lighting can be overbearing.
5️⃣ Medicine Cabinet: This could be a nice to have! But having easy access to your toiletries and creating more space on your vanity will be a luxury you can’t go back on.
